Medication and Libido by SassyWitch666

Medication can mess with libido and make a highly sexual individual feel less sexy than a rock. I have always been a very sexual person. I’m talking sex four or more times a day and still feeling feisty.  So when I was put on medication,  I worried about how it would affect me. Fortunately, it hasn’t dampened my need to go to pound town and neither did the following three meds they put me on.

However, one med really upset my stomach. If you take Linzess or know anyone who does, you know how crappy (pun intended) this medicine and the effects are for the person taking them.  I only take it when I really need to otherwise my whole night is ruined and I won’t be having any fun.  Medications that interfere with your sex life are a reality for many people.
The doctors have ordered me a new med and we’re waiting to see if it gets approved. It makes me nervous as it’s a pain med and I have seen time and again where people who take pain meds have a decreased sex drive. This pain med is no different in that one of the side effects listed is decreased sex drive.
I’m going to watch and see where this goes and keep everyone up to date as I go thru this journey as I believe it could help others. Everyone deserves a healthy and satisfying sex life and I’m interested to see how this plays out on a personal level.
If your medicine gives you trouble and doesn’t clear up in a relatively short time, tell your doctor. Your doctor can’t help you if you don’t communicate with them. You shouldn’t suffer from side effects that can be relieved.
Now, why am I being open about this you may ask? Because as I said everyone deserves a healthy and satisfying sex life. And if this helps one person that makes it worth it.
A few weeks later, I began to question, are my meds trying to make me better or kill me? I started on my new medication and I ask this question often.

My journey through pain management and how the medication could affect my libido has veered off onto a dirt road so to speak.
I was worried the pain meds may make my sex drive go idle, but instead, I had a horrible reaction to the first pain pills called Nucynta. After taking it for 4 days,  I ended up with red dots all over my body, itching like crazy and feeling restless.
So while it didn’t harm my libido, it did put a damper on my ability to enjoy sex. It’s difficult to feel sexy when you can’t stop itching and can’t stay still.
My nurse practitioner gave me a new medicine. A pain patch called Buprenorphine. I was hoping it would help but sadly it didn’t go as I wished.  After wearing the patch for less than 12 hours I broke out in hives, started itching, my body was aching all over, my breathing was becoming difficult and I had anxiety so bad I was almost in tears.  However, it didn’t affect my libido. I was still feeling sexy and horny as ever. I did get to enjoy playtime and got some sweet satisfaction before my body went into a thermal nuclear meltdown.  A  second allergic reaction occurred on none other than Valentine’s Day. Early in the morning, I felt like I was on fire with itching.  I even wrote a silly sarcastic poem about it.  Presenting my Valentine’s Day poem courtesy of my newest pain med:
Why I need Benadryl

by Buprenorphine patch

Here are some hives from head to toe just for you.
And how about some annoying itching too?
A bit of coughing and wheezing and shallow breath, woohoo!
Aching body and your left shoulder all red, boo hoo
But hey at least I didn’t kill you!

While my libido has remained intact, my body hasn’t done well with the meds and it has inadvertently interrupted my sex life. It’s frustrating but I’m not ready to give up. I called my nurse practitioner and let her know what was going on. It’s always important to keep your medical providers up to date so they can help you.
Please if you have an adverse reaction go to the E.R immediately. Don’t be stubborn like me. I just stayed home stopped the medication immediately. And with the pain patch, I took it off and washed my arm and my hands thoroughly.
I then took two Benadryl and listened to “1RuleSupersedes” music while playing Candy Crush.
So now here it is over a month later and I’m on pain med number 3 (for those keeping count) which is Tramadol . Granted it’s not one of the stronger meds but it has made the pain I’ve had more tolerable and so far it’s not messing with my libido. It can cause constipation like most opioids but for me, I’m doing alright so that’s good.
We will see where it goes from here but the doctor is hopeful and so am I. I don’t need to go back for 4 months if I continue to do alright with this medication so fingers, toes and  Shibari ropes crossed it will keep working well!
Till then hope those of you out there dealing with the same things may you find what works and keep on having good naughty fun without interruption! And if you find yourself hitting a bump in the road don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor that’s what they’re there for so don’t hesitate. It may get worse if you delay getting the help you need. So speak up and speak out!
