Karen Joyner-Washington, (also known as Wintah Storm), is a poet, spoken word artist, and author from Allendale, SC. In this episode, we delve into her work with P.E.A.C.E., a nonprofit organization that utilizes the arts to inspire and uplift communities. We explore her poetry, books, and music, while she graces us with three powerful—and deliciously kinky—poems. Plus, Nicholas Tanek debuts of his poem, “Kink Helps Kink.”

Karen Joyner-Washington is a poet, spoken word artist, and author born and
raised in Allendale, SC. She begin writing poetry at the age of nine and
perfected her craft by performing at Jordan Baptist Church in Barnwell, SC.
Since her debut, she has become a member of the Unusual Suspects poetry
Troop, member of Tribe Slam, poetry workshop facilitator, and the co-host of
an open mic at The House of Hathor called the J.A.M. Session with Bugsy
Calhoun. Her books, An Affair of the Mind; The Thoughts and Feelings of a
One-Sided Affair and Girlfriend Moments can be found online as well as her
poetry albums Fire and Desire, The Pages of my Diary, and her single Phenomenal Times Three. She
is a co-founder of P.E.A.C.E – Poetry, Entertainment, Arts, Community,
Education, a non-profit that is using the arts to change the community for the
better. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics from
Benedict College and has been teaching in South Carolina for 20 years.
